THE STORY: Try to imagine a necklace of watery jewels hung from the neck of a old, forested mountain.
That's what Ricketts Glen, the premier state park in the Keystone State, appears like both on trail maps and in person.
Twin branches cascade down the south side of Red Rock Mountain, a low but long running ancient ridge west of Wilkes-Barre, where they eventually mingle. Along the way, you can marvel at nearly two dozen waterfalls between 15 and nearly 100 feet high.
Feel the breeze coming down the glens created by that rush of water and the mist on your face. Let the falls fill your ears. Walk the trail slowly. Take it all in.
It's easy as a photographer to give in to the adrenaline, the thrill of seeing a waterfall and then fidgeting with cameras and lenses and neutral density filters to get the shot. It's easy to lose yourself in the creation of a photo.
Take your time. See the scene. Be present. Feel joy and reverence for such a magnificent place.
